Job description:

Exciting opportunity for a Specialist Legal Adviser to join the Department of Health!

The Team:

Join our team as a specialist senior manager within the Office of the Secretary, where you will work autonomously while having access to collaborative support from other Office of the Secretary teams. This role offers the opportunity to provide strategic leadership and high-level advice on civil litigation matters, influencing key decisions and policies. You will engage with a broad range of stakeholders. The Role:

  • High-level management and strategic advisory expertise: Proven ability to provide strategic leadership and high-quality advice on complex legal, legislative, and accountability issues, particularly in civil litigation matters.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management: Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining productive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior government officials and legal experts.
  • Autonomous and proactive professional judgement: Capacity to operate with a high level of autonomy, exercising initiative and professional judgement in managing sensitive and complex litigation matters, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, day worker position, working 73.5 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $170,409 to $188,400 pro rata per annum + our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualifications in law
  • Extensive experience in Government Agency legal services and the operations of government in relevant areas

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Appropriate post graduate qualification in law, management or public policy
