Job description:

Provide effective leadership for the SMHS Safety, Quality, Risk, and Clinical Service program. Additionally, ensure the effective and inclusive implementation of the National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) standard accreditation scheme

The Team: 

Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS) provides comprehensive care to Tasmanians across the lifespan, supporting individuals with mental health conditions, alcohol and other drug-related issues, and delivering primary health care services to the state's prison population.

SMHS encompasses the following clinical specialty streams:

  • Adult Mental Health Services
  • Forensic Health Services
  • Older Persons Mental Health Services
  • Child and Youth Mental Health Services
  • Alcohol and Drug Services

The Role:

The Executive Director of Safety and Quality (EDSQ) is responsible for the effective leadership and management of the SMHSs Safety, Quality, Risk and Clinical Service Program and for providing leadership and direction in the ongoing strategic development and evaluation of consumer safety systems and quality processes within a clinical governance framework.

Provide effective and inclusive implementation of the National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards accreditation scheme, Digital Mental Health Standards, the National Aged Care Quality Standards, local integrated quality, improvement and consumer safety programs, consistent with the organisational needs and in keeping with contemporary practice.

Develop, foster, and support a professional culture aligned to the organisation’s values, promoting, and supporting strategic direction for clinical governance and safe service delivery across the State. This role works across clinical and non-clinical areas.

You will need to:

  • Report to the EDON/DOS SMHS, the EDSQ is the principal clinical governance advisor within SMHS. This position provides strategic leadership and professional advice on all matters relating to clinical governance and all issues affecting clinical governance, accreditation and issues affecting patient safety.
  • Contribute to the executive management of SMHS and strongly contribute to the development and implementation of overall strategic and operational plans. As a member of the executive team, role model the SMHS and DoH vision, mission, and values.
  • Provide professional expertise, leadership, vision, and strategic direction to the entire SMHS workforce, including developing and supporting the specialty specific local management teams to achieve measurable improvements in clinical performance.

Details of appointment: General Stream, Band 9

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: 

$170,409 to $188,400 per annum + our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
