The Role:
- Works under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Unit Manager.
- Delivers nursing care as delegated by the Nurse Unit Manager.
- Collaborates with members of the healthcare team to achieve effective healthcare outcomes.
- Accountable for the standard of nursing care provided and acts to rectify unsafe practices and/or unprofessional conduct.
- Practices in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia approved national competency standards for enrolled nurses, legislation, education, experience and organisational policy.
- Champion a child safe culture that upholds the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. The Department is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children and young people, and expect all employees to actively participate in and contribute to our rights-based approach to care, including meeting all mandatory reporting obligations.
- Where applicable, exercise delegations in accordance with a range of Acts, Regulations, Awards, administrative authorities and functional arrangements as mandated by Statutory office holders including the Secretary and Head of State Service. The relevant Unit Manager can provide details to the occupant of delegations applicable to this position.
- Comply at all times with policy and protocol requirements, including those relating to mandatory education, training and assessment.
You will need:
- Sound knowledge of the principles of nursing care, procedures and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to practice in a manner that respects the right of individuals and groups.
- Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated assessment, problem solving and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as member of a multidisciplinary team.

The Team:
Come and be a part of a unique and diverse nurse lead team. The Mother Baby Unit (MBU) delivers multidisciplinary inpatient care for consumers with perinatal mental illness, including sleep and settling issues, in the perinatal period from conception through to 12 months post-partum.
We are a two-bed unit and are operational 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year and currently situated within the RHH K block. We work fully rotational shift work and offer family friendly approach to work and rostering. We pride ourselves on being a transparent operational space and caring for our consumers is our ultimate goal.
Details of appointment:
Fixed term full time, shift worker position (fully rotational), working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of approximately two (2) years.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $68,913 to $75,902 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $500 per annum
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qualification type

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as an Enrolled Nurse (holds a Board-approved qualification in administration of medicines).
