The Role:
The Mental Health Act Educator has responsibility for the implementation and ongoing development of the
learning and development framework that has resulted from the Mental Health Act Review Implementation
Project and the ongoing learning and development of the mental health workforce in Tasmania to operationalise
the Act’s provisions on behalf of the Chief Psychiatrist. They will continue supporting the work of the Mental Health Act Review Implementation Project, ensuring a seamless transition into ongoing education and training initiatives.

Undertake the education and training activities and programs required to support effective operation of this
Act consistently across Tasmania.

To plan, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of education and training development activities in
collaboration with SMHS, and prepare supporting materials for clinicians, consumers, and carers.

Liaise and work with Tasmania Police and Ambulance Tasmania as training needs are identified to support
and deliver training around the application of the Mental Health Act.
The CNE - Mental Health Act will receive general guidance on strategic goals and objectives from the Chief
Psychiatrist under the direction of the Manager – Office of the Chief Psychiatrist. The occupant is responsible for:
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to develop, plan, implement and evaluate education programs that are linked to the workforce needs of SMHS to support a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities in a clinical practice setting, that is consistent across the state.
- Applying high-level professional and clinical expertise in collaboration with nursing and multidisciplinary stakeholders to enact education and development strategies for SMHS, Tasmania Police, and Ambulance Tasmania as required.

The Team:
The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist is a small team within the Tasmanian Department of Health that supports the Chief Psychiatrist in meeting statutory responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 2013. Collaborating with key stakeholders, including SMHS and TASCAT, the team provides education, training, and guidance to ensure consistent statewide application of the Act. By partnering with people with lived experience and promoting inclusive, evidence-based practices, the Office improves mental health outcomes and supports the delivery of safe, high-quality care for the Tasmanian community.
Details of appointment:
Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $111,506 to $118,336 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service Agreement) 2019

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type
