Job description:

In accordance with established guidelines, processes and procedures, and under the supervision of the Senior Pharmacist - Correctional Health, the Pharmacy Technician - Correctional Health will provide a comprehensive pharmaceutical service within a Correctional Primary Health Services (CPHS) environment

The Role:

In accordance with established guidelines, processes and procedures, and under the supervision of the Senior Pharmacist - Correctional Health, the Pharmacy Technician - Correctional Health will assist in the coordination and provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service within a Correctional Primary Health Services (CPHS) environment.

1. Dispense medications as prescribed for clients of CPHS. 
2. Production and management of dose administration aids such as Webster packs.
3. Assist in the ordering and stock control of medications and pharmacy consumables.     
4. Assist in imprest management, including ordering and deliveries to out centres.
5. Administrative tasks including those related to the organisations Quality and Safety and Work Health and Safety processes.  

The Team: 

The successful applicant will work within a team of specialist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians under the direction of the Senior Pharmacist to provide pharmacy services across the area of Correctional Primary Health Services. This includes assisting in the coordination and provision of a comprehensive pharmacy service and working within a multidisciplinary team to achieve the best possible quality use of medicines across correctional facilities. 

Correctional Primary Health Services provides general and specialist healthcare to men and women in prison and has health services in each Tasmanian prison in both Hobart and Launceston. This position is based at the Risdon Prison Hospital, a high security area.  The occupant will have regular daily contact with prisoners in both the outpatient and inpatient areas.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately twelve (12) months 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $71,661 - $77,455 per annum per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Allowances: 

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

  • Correctional allowance of 6.5%

Eligibility:

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

    • Possess or be actively enrolled in Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance (Hospital and Community Health Pharmacy Assistance) from a recognised education institution; or

    • Possess or be actively enrolled in Certificate III or IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support from a recognised educational institution; or

    • An Associate Diploma from a recognised educational institution, or an equivalent qualification, that is relevant to the work of a pharmacy technician

      *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
