Job description:

Coordinate and supervise pharmacy technicians and assist in the training of staff in the provision of a pharmaceutical service to Correctional Health Services and its clients. The Senior Technician will work within the guidance and direction of Correctional Health Pharmacists.

The Role:

  1. Assist with the dispensing of pharmaceuticals, packing dose administration aids, coordination of pharmaceutical stock supply systems, including imprest, and liaison with external pharmaceutical supply organisations.
  2. Oversee pharmacy technicians, including monitoring unit workflow, stock availability, prioritisation of urgent work, liaison with external pharmacy service providers and Work Health and Safety issues.
  3. Contribute to the continual development and refinement of operating procedures for the dispensary and other stock management systems in conjunction with the pharmacist.
  4. Train new staff in the operating procedures for the area, assist in the monitoring of current practice and provide ongoing support for technicians working in the area.
  5. Undertake pharmacy technician primary tasks, including dispensing, dose administration aid packing, impresting and associated tasks.

The Senior Pharmacy Technician will report to the Specialist Pharmacist Correctional Health with limited autonomy and is expected to exercise initiative and professional judgment across the spectrum of responsibilities as well as to judge when to seek advice or direction. Duties are performed according to documented procedures.

The Team:

The successful applicant will work within a team of specialist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians under the direction of the Senior Pharmacist to provide pharmacy services across the area of Correctional Primary Health Services. This includes assisting in the coordination and provision of a comprehensive pharmacy service and working within a multidisciplinary team to achieve the best possible quality use of medicines across correctional facilities. 

Correctional Primary Health Services provides general and specialist healthcare to men and women in prison and has health services in each Tasmanian prison in both Hobart and Launceston. This position is based at the Risdon Prison Hospital, a high security area.  The occupant will have regular daily contact with prisoners in both the outpatient and inpatient areas. 

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $79,529 to 91,517 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Allowances: 

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

    • Possess or be actively enrolled in Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance (Hospital and Community Health Pharmacy Assistance) from a recognised education institution; or

    • Possess or be actively enrolled in Certificate III or IV in Hospital/Health Services Pharmacy Support from a recognised education institution; or

    • An Associate Diploma from a recognised educational institution, or an equivalent qualification, that is relevant to the work of a pharmacy technician
