Job description:

Opportunities exist for suitably qualified doctors to become full-time Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registrars at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie, Tasmania.

The Role:

Opportunities exist for suitably qualified doctors to become full-time Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registrars at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie, Tasmania. NWRH is a 160 bed acute care facility, employing 780 staff, located on the North West coast of Tasmania. NWRH is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), and is also an accredited teaching hospital with the University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School.  

The NWRH 8 bed ICU is led by an Intensivist who is a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) and clinical care is provided by fully qualified Intensivists who are fellows of the CICM with a 24/7 on-call cover arrangement. The unit possesses state-of-the-art equipment to provide advanced mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement, haemodynamic monitoring, echocardiography, ultrasound guided procedures, bronchoscopy and other ICU therapies.  

The unit is accredited by College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for Foundation and Rural training in Intensive Care Medicine and is approved to train CICM candidates under Commonwealth-funded IRTP and TMSDT programs.  

DOH-North West will provide you with all the required support, in the form of immediately available and easily approachable Specialist supervision, learning resources and regular teaching to perform your role safely and effectively. Our teaching program includes weekly teaching and weekly CICM First Part Examination preparation sessions. Our ICU registrars are also welcome to attend the BASIC course, which we run twice per year. One of the Consultants has been a Primary CICM examiner.

Details of Appointment

Fixed Term full time, shift-worker position working 76 hours (+ 10 hours protected training time) commencing from September 2024 until February 2026.

Salary:

Registrars

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $131,000 - $183,500 per annum, pro rata + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
