Job description:

The Planning Officer works as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting inmates to identify and address issues that may contribute to their risk of re-offending.

Details of Appointment

This is a day work permanent position working 73.50 hours per fortnight.

Benefits

Salary of $83,011 – $95,547 pa. Starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increase within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement

Working Environment

Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale in the Old Prison Hospital in a multidisciplinary team. The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time). 

Duties

  • Provide evidence based criminogenic assessment for offenders identified as suitable for a coordinated intervention.
  • Conduct assessments utilising TPS approved tools.
  • Discuss with inmates the results of assessment and formulate sentence goals.
  • Develop comprehensive case plans and make referrals and or recommendations in line with individual case plans.
  • Case Co-ordination of a varying number of clients as required.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team and participate in case-management reviews to ensure continuity of care.
  • Convene and lead case conferences, liaise with other prison staff and relevant agencies about assessment and case management.
  • Participate in supervision, peer review and continuing professional development and risk management practices.
  • Assist with and participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of quality improvement, risk management, ethical research activities and other strategies consistent with best practice as required.
  • Undertake prisoner induction tasks for the Integrated Offender Management Unit within the Induction Prison and/or MHWP, as directed by the Team Leader of Planning and Reintegration.

Desirable Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling.
