Job description:

The Housing and Strategic Planning branch has a broad work program including providing strategic and statutory planning advice to support improved outcomes for the Department and the Tasmanian Government. Key focus areas include settlement planning, housing policy, transport infrastructure and modes, resources and renewable energy. The branch is responsible to assess and coordinate responses on a wide range of land use planning matters, including the Governments’ planning reform agenda, master and structure plans, planning scheme amendments, major development proposals and Crown landowner consent applications. This will form the main area of work for the Strategic Planner. The branch also leads and provides advice on major projects, including a statewide industrial land study, redevelopment of the Hobart Showgrounds, future planning for industrial precincts and planning approval pathways. The Housing and Strategic Planning branch works flexibly across teams. The Strategic Planner will be supported to work within other teams, subject to work priorities and workloads.

Duties

  • Assess and advise on local planning strategies, major development proposals, planning scheme amendments, and Crown landowner consent applications.
  • Coordinate and provide input to major strategic and statutory planning initiatives, including the Tasmanian Government’s planning reform agenda.
  • Provide strategic and statutory planning advice, as required.
  • Prepare high-quality written material including correspondence, minutes and briefs.
  • Foster productive and consultative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable Requirements

  • Planning qualification and/or eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia
