Job description:

Assist in managing the Prison Service store, including the canteen, in accordance with the Government Procurement requirements and processes. Organising the purchase of necessary goods and services for the Prison Service as required. Maintaining contact with goods and service providers to maximise purchasing options.

Details of Appointment

This role is a permanent, day work position working 73.50 hours per fortnight.

Benefits

Salary of $74,783 to $80,835 pa. starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increases within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement

Working Environment

Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale.

The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time).

Duties

  • Assist with the management of the Tasmania Prison Service store and ensure the control of stock is within related instructions and Output policy and in accordance with Government procurement requirements.
  • Ensure the continued provision of store services to all prisoners and staff on a weekly basis.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to store staff and allocated inmates (where applicable) on store procedures.
  • Supervision of inmate labour within the Prison Store.
  • Assist in the ongoing development and review of stores information and control systems.
  • Liaise with clients and suppliers regularly.
  • Processing, packaging, delivery and complaint resolution of inmate canteen orders.
  • Process internal requisitions and Government Purchase Orders.
  • Ensure the accuracy of cost allocation information and copies of Government Purchase Orders are available for accounts payable purposes.
  • Responsible for the receipt, checking, storage and rotation of goods that are delivered to the Prison Store.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the inventory control system to ensure goods received, stored and despatched are properly recorded and accounted for.
  • Assist in maintaining the computerised stock control systems for all items within the Prison Store, including the pricing adjustment of items as and when required.
  • The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Desirable requirements

  • Forklift Licence
  • Previous Experience in wholesale or bulk store operations would be an advantage
  • Previous experience with the financial/ordering system, Finance One
  • Understanding of Government procurement and contracting principals
