About You

We are looking for motivated and talented people to join our Cadet Program as Assistant Research Officers (Cadet). Multiple positions are available.

You will be finishing year 12 and intending to enrol to commence a relevant undergraduate degree course or be partly through it.

As a Cadet, you will work full-time in a variety of business areas (generally moving to a different area of Treasury every 12 months) to help you develop a wide range of career-building skills. You will undertake research and administrative work across Treasury including undertaking standard business tasks and providing support to major projects.

You will benefit from mentoring from past Cadets and senior leaders, access to on and off the job training, and a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

Ideally you will have:

  • a strong desire to learn and develop your knowledge and expertise;
  • the capacity to be innovative and a critical thinker about problems;
  • sound time management skills and a professional approach to work and study;
  • the ability to successfully manage work and study related commitments at the same time;
  • the capacity to apply your skills to diverse tasks and in a range of different subject areas; and
  • an interest in Treasury’s organisational values and making a difference to Tasmanians.

Our Cadet Program can take up to six years to complete, depending on how much university study you have completed when you enter the Program.

You must be eligible to work full-time and study part-time and you must at all times hold and comply with all visa requirements as determined by the Department of Home Affairs and the Migration Act 1958 if you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of applicants and provide flexible, hybrid working options in most roles. We want our employees to reach their full potential which is why we make reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process to enable applicants with disability, illness and injury to fully participate.
