Job description:

Work for a small jurisdiction but make a big impact by providing authoritative advice on land tenure and land surveying, place naming and mapping.

About the role

As Surveyor General, you’ll lead the surveying profession in the development of modernised spatial data systems and ensure adherence to professional and technical standards that underpin the property boundary system in Tasmania.

  • Manage the performance and development of staff within the technically focussed and innovative Location Services Branch (approximately 49 employees). You’ll have six direct reports.
  • Oversee the Branch’s spatial activities, including development and maintenance of the LIST, developing briefing papers for Ministerial and Departmental consideration.
  • Represent Tasmania on national committees including the Tasmanian Spatial Information Council (TASSIC) and meet with interstate colleagues on national initiatives.
  • Partner with the University of Tasmania and provide training and education to early career surveyors.
  • Chair the Place Names Advisory Panel and contribute to the Aboriginal and Dual naming policy.
  • Undertake the statutory functions of the Surveyor General.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).

Essential requirements

  • A Registered Land Surveyor under the provisions of the Surveyors Act 2002.

Desirable requirements

  • Post graduate qualifications or experience at a senior management level.
  • Drivers licence.
