Job description:

Lead the Agency’s contracting activity and provides expert advice and commercial insights in the preparation and review of contracts and legal instruments and in the management of contract performance.

We are looking for a highly experienced contract professional to lead the Agency’s contracting activity aligned primarily to the delivery of our marketing program.

You will have a strong understanding of commercial contracting practices and significant experience in drafting a range of legal instruments.

What you'll be responsible for

  • The successful delivery of the contracts and procurement program, working across the operations of the agency to understand and prioritise contracting activity, and delivering outcomes in a fast-paced commercial environment to meet program requirements.
  • Working across the agency with a collaborative and open communication work style, liaising with third parties and identifying program and individual activity risks, while taking a balanced approach to achieving the desired outcomes.
  • Continually evolving the contracts function to meet agency objectives, including policies, procedures and documentation and enabling the development of required capabilities across the Agency.
  • Maintaining knowledge of contemporary contracts and procurement practices from a commercial, legal and government perspective.
  • Providing legal coordination and support services on issues that may arise from time to time and liaise with the Office of Crown Law, as required.

What you'll work on

  • Fostering internal relationships to understand Tourism Tasmania’s program objectives, providing expert guidance and recommending fit for purpose contract and procurement solutions to realise program activities.
  • Delivering the contracts program through a consistent, coordinated and effective approach to realise the agency’s program.
  • Drafting and reviewing procurement documents, including tenders and requests for quotations, ensuring clarity, accuracy and compliance with the regulatory framework.
  • Drafting and reviewing legal contracts, variations and contracts for services to meet business objectives, in line with Crown Law guidelines.
  • Manage the risk environment for contracts, assessing and advising on mitigation strategies and providing ongoing risk advice associated with the contracting program.
  • Liaising with the Office of Crown Law on legal or specialist and technical contract and procurement activities, as required.
  • Managing and reviewing contract and procurement policies and procedures developing and implementing performance measures, leading to simplified and efficient practices while maintaining program effectivess.
  • Managing the record keeping and reporting of the agency’s Contracts and Procurement program including statutory and performance reporting.
  • Being the executive officer for the agency’s Procurement Review Committee.
  • Fostering positive relationships with external contractors, vendors, partners and other government entities to enhance collaboration, resolve any contractual issues that may arise and support key activities.
  • Enabling the Operations program and supporting other related projects as required.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of contemporary contracting and procurement practices.

You will have commercial acumen, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to influence people and outcomes to deliver the agency’s objectives.
