Job description:

Provide day to day coordination and supervision of a small team to achieve quality outcomes, delivering effective finance operational service to the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Provide customer-focused and professional advice related to the financial operations of the Department to all internal and external stakeholders, in particular leading responses to client enquires regarding the financial operations of the Department. Ensure all members of the team are adequately trained in the processes and procedures of the financial operations of the Department, including supporting the maintenance of the Department’s finance policies and procedures at a high level.

Hours per fortnight

Up to 73.5 hours - flexible options available. 

Duties

  1. Supervise and co-ordinate the functions of the Financial Operations team to timely and effective finance operational services and advice to management and staff on a range of finance related matters. 
  2. Drawing from an in-depth knowledge of accounting operations of the Department and represent the best interests of the Department when leading responses to client enquiries whilst also identifying and advising on any real or potential non-compliance with the financial management, taxation and corporation legislation that the Department must comply with.
  3. Mentors and evaluates financial operations staff in the policies and procedures of the Department with a particular focus on financial operations and internal controls. Provide training and competency assessment for the Financial Operations team.
  4. Undertake, or oversee, the maintenance and development of the financial operations policies and procedures.
  5. Promote and support a strong team culture within the financial reporting and operations team.
  6. Engage with debtors and creditors to ensure timely processing of expenditure and revenue.
  7. Undertake reconciliation of debtor and creditor accounts and statements.  Process receipts and banking to the departmental bank accounts. Prepare debtors invoices and maintain the Departmental Debtors Register, including leading the follow-up of outstanding debts.
  8. Prepare reports and general correspondence to assist staff, debtors and creditors with their queries.
  9. Establish and maintain registers and databases and prepare statistical and other routine reports for processing, budgeting and other finance related processes.
  10. Assist with compliance processing and checking, including Business Activity Statement, Fringe Benefits Tax, Taxable Payments Annual Reporting and other compliance matters.
  11. The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Desirable Requirements

Completion or progression towards completion of a relevant formal tertiary qualification in Accounting or Management.
