Job description:

To lead and grow MRT’s currently operating HyLogger program, part of the AuScope National Virtual Core Library (NVCL) and participate in geoscientific studies in Tasmania. Includes the supervision of geoscientific operations related to the HyLogger program and participation in scientific studies to increase understanding of the geosciences of Tasmania and to support the exploration and mining industry in Tasmania. Work with colleagues across MRT, participate in the supervision and management of Exploration and Retention Licenses and Mining Leases and actively promote Tasmania to the Mineral Exploration Industry.

Duties

  • Actively interact with relevant stakeholders, including Government bodies, exploration companies, research institutions and individual researchers on matters associated with HyLogger,
  • Plan detailed work programmes and supervise staff in HyLogger projects and in the production of reports and maps from such projects.
  • Undertake laboratory, office and field-based projects related to maintaining and further developing the HyLogger scanning program.
  • Prepare agency and external publications and presentations on any aspects of work undertaken.
  • Assist in the management of mineral tenements and Geoscientific Databases.
  • Supervise and manage HyLogger technical staff.

Essential Requirements

Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment to this role:

  • Satisfactory completion of an appropriate science based graduate qualification at a recognised tertiary institution in the field of geology.
  • Current Drivers licence.

The person must continue to satisfy the above essential requirements/qualifications throughout their employment in this role.

Desirable Requirements

  • A post-graduate Science degree from a recognised tertiary institution in the field of geology.
  • Considerable background experience in geoscience with demonstrated expertise in spectral geology. 
  • Experience and knowledge of data science.
