Job description:

Harness your exceptional communication skills to effectively coordinate relationships and engagement with the Tasmanian livestock processing industry.

About the role

Biosecurity Tasmania is looking for individuals interested in working in the animal welfare space. The Senior Biosecurity Officer (Animal Welfare Stakeholder Engagement) is a newly established position that will support our commitment to safeguarding and improving animal welfare in Tasmania.

  • Undertake fieldwork, meeting with stakeholders, Tasmanian farmers and producers, and peak bodies.
  • Work directly with industry to provide information, support and deliver key biosecurity projects.
  • Ensure stakeholders have up to date and accurate information on current biosecurity developments and regulatory activities.
  • Provide input into the development of policies, standard operating procedures, and plans.
  • Facilitate industry meetings and/or events and other community-based activities.

This position will require working in often intense and emotionally challenging environments including abattoirs, in the interest of animal welfare.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).

Pre employment checks

  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.

The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction check in the following conviction areas:

a. Crimes of violence
b. Sex related offences
c. Serious drug offences
d. Crimes involving dishonesty
e. Serious traffic offences
f. Any other offences under the Biosecurity Act 2019, or related legislation

Essential requirements

  • A current unrestricted motor vehicle driver’s license

Desirable requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the nature of the work to be undertaken, as provided by either a university, a vocational education organisation or a registered and accredited training provider.
