Job description:

The position develops and continuously improves the regulatory performance framework for WorkSafe Tasmania, enabling the Work Health and Safety Regulator (WHSR), WorkCover Board Tasmania (Board), and Asbestos Compensation Commissioner (ACC) to meet their obligations and to identify and achieve opportunities for continuous improvement in regulatory approaches.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Develop and implement strategies and systems to embed best practice principles for regulatory performance within WorkSafe Tasmania
  • Provide high level strategic­­ advice to the Executive Director, executive leadership team and Board and Committees to plan, implement, and evaluate regulatory performance best practice principles.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate a program of workforce strategies and development activities to strengthen workforce capability consistent with organisational plans.
  • Develop and implement strategies for WorkSafe to have well-defined, communicated and embedded organisational values and culture.
  • Establish and implement transparent external accountability processes (such as complaints and feedback handling procedures) to encourage procedural fairness, accessibility and responsiveness that builds public trust and confidence in the performance of WorkSafe’s regulatory functions.
  • Establish and implement internal accountability processes (such as reviews of regulatory actions) to identify learnings and explore opportunities for improvement and regular reviews of operating procedures, policies etc. 
  • Develop and prepare high level documentation including options papers, briefing papers, project plan reports, submissions, policy documents and procedural guidelines.
  • Conduct environmental scans and consider best practice examples from other jurisdictions and regulatory systems to foster a culture of continuous improvement and reflection.
  • Engage with other regulators and stakeholders to share learnings and insights and reflect on best practice and lessons learned, representing WorkSafe on national committees, working groups and in external meetings.
  • Establish clear operational scopes, share intelligence and produce common guidance material to identify and minimise duplication and harmonise activities with other regulators to achieve better regulatory outcomes.
  • Perform other duties as envisaged by the assigned classification under the relevant industrial award or agreement and in accordance with the skills, competency and training of the occupant.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in designing, developing and delivering workplace training and development programs.
  • A working knowledge of work health and safety legislation.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
  • An ability to travel between work locations across the state.
