Job description:

The purpose of the role is to provide expert scientific advice on matters relating to water quality assessment and monitoring consistent with the objective, principles and requirements of the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994, related State legislation and policies, various National programs and initiatives, and best practice environmental management.

  • Protect Tasmania’s environment and way of life.
  • Partner with passionate environmental staff in meeting the EPA’s requirements.
  • Work with the team of scientific water specialists.
  • Provide expert advice in relation to the EPA’s water quality monitoring activities.
  • Represent the EPA as required on water quality matters and maintain a knowledge and understanding of interstate and international standards and guidelines.
  • Lead the EPA’s Water Section, in its provision of water quality advice and water quality monitoring services.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation). 

Essential requirements

  • A degree in science or an equivalent qualification, relevant to the nature of the work to be undertaken, as provided by a university.
  • Several years practical experience in the investigation of water pollution and the aquatic environment.

Desirable requirements

  • A current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
