Job description:
The Project Director – Energy and Construction Workforce will lead a team within Skills Tasmania to deliver high-level government services, stakeholder engagement, and workforce development initiatives in the construction, licensed trades, and energy sectors.

Period of Appointment
Appointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible basis (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) for 2.5 years.
Duties
- Lead and manage the team of industry partnership managers, whose function is to facilitate and support workforce planning and development across Tasmania’s energy sector and the participants of the State Government’s ‘High-Vis Army’ commitment which is supporting the construction labour force to grow by 25%.
- Play a key role in implementing Industry Skills Compacts, ensuring alignment with Skills Tasmania’s goals and Ministerial priorities.
- Ensure a high level of industry and client engagement and strategic advice on the training and workforce development needs of the renewable energy sector and be able to provide accurate and timely advice to government.
- Provide project support to the Advisory Committee in delivering its objectives for the North West Clean Energy Skills Centre in Burnie. This role involves works closely with TasTAFE and will coordinate with the University of Tasmania’s Cradle Coast Campus, the Tasmanian Manufacturing and Energy Centre, and the Department of Education’s Trade Training Centre to create a nationally connected and industry-driven hub.
- Proactively initiate and formulate advice and policy/strategic input on workforce and training in the renewable energy sector in the development, implementation and review of strategies, policies, programs, plans and projects.
- Build a portfolio of clients and develop and maintain high level professional business relationships working directly with the owners and managers of these businesses and other key stakeholders to identify and analyse opportunities or issues at the enterprise and/or industry level.
- Develop and maintain close and effective working relationships with relevant Jobs and Skills Councils that have been established to provide industry with a stronger voice to ensure Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector delivers better outcomes for learners to ensure an alignment with national projects and priorities.
- Work in partnership with Department of State Growth business units, as well as relevant agencies across the state and federal levels, to ensure the effective referral of client needs for management and the implementation of programs, processes and management systems in a streamlined and client centric way.
- Prepare a diverse range of high level written documentation including correspondence, ministerial responses, briefing notes, board papers and reports as required.
Essential Requirements
- A current drivers licence.
Desirable Requirements
- Relevant tertiary or industry recognised qualifications and/or professional affiliations.
Intrastate and interstate travel will be required.
