Job description:

The Senior Hydrographer will routinely undertake field work in remote areas across the state, traveling by 4WD, ATVs and helicopters.

About the role

As part of a small specialised team, the Senior Hydrographer will plan and coordinate operational procedures required for the monitoring, collection, analysis, and reporting of information relating to water resources in Tasmania.

  • Operate the NRE Tas time-series database “AQUARIUS”.
  • Maintain streamflow and groundwater station infrastructure.
  • Carry out repairs to hydraulic civil structures and electronic water monitoring equipment.
  • Provide specialised and authoritative advice on water quantity issues.

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).

Desirable requirements

  • A Diploma from a recognised TAFE institution, or an equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work. Civil Engineering or Surveying qualifications highly regarded.
  • Unrestricted driver’s licence.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Swift Water/Boating training.
  • A current First Aid certificate.
