Job description:

Provide an effective and efficient delivery of a range of administration services across a number of business units for the Tasmanian Prison Service.

Working Environment

The Department of Justice operates from multiple sites across Tasmania. Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart, and Launceston. This position is based at Risdon Vale in the Visitor Reception Centre.

The Risdon Vale site offers a diverse work environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre traffic, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time). We are a short drive to local shops and services, however there is no need to worry about parking when you return as there is plenty (and did we mention it’s free!).

Hours per fortnight

73.5 hours per fortnight shift work on a 7 day roster. This requires weekend work which attracts shift allowances in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award.

Flexible work arrangements such as part-time may be considered.

In addition to the salary, this position attracts:

Duties

  • Undertake reception duties at the Visitor Reception Centre, including telephone reception, booking visits, receipting of prisoner property, registration of biometric data and responding to general enquiries.
  • Undertake financial tasks including receipting of monies, processing of prisoner requests and financial transactions, together with the reconciliation and banking of monies.
  • Perform various administrative functions including drafting of correspondence, screening of visitor applications, management of electronic diaries and filing of documentation.
  • Process mail, incoming and outgoing, in accordance with organisation policy and procedures.
  • The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying jobs at this classification level.
