Job description:

You will deliver evidence‑based AOD assessments, counselling and care plans for complex clients, collaborates in multidisciplinary care, supports recovery, and contributes to education, quality, and service improvement.

*Please note this position is also being advertised as an Alcohol and Other Drug Senior Counsellor (522983L4). Please note Multiple Positions will be filled on Merit. Please note this position is eligible for a Multi-Disciplinary Allowance.

*This is not a graduate level position. 2-3 years post registration experience expected.

The Team

The Tasmanian Department of Health is seeking dedicated and motivated Registered Nurses to join the Alcohol and Drug Service Community Team. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of experienced clinicians committed to delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based alcohol and other drug treatment services. ADS operates within a supportive, collaborative environment that values professional development, clinical leadership and continuous improvement.

The Role

As a Registered Nurse within the Alcohol and Drug Service Community Team, you will provide comprehensive, evidence‑based assessment, and individual outpatient counselling to people experiencing alcohol and other drug issues. Many clients present with complex needs, including co‑occurring mental health, physical health and psychosocial challenges.

In the role of Registered Nurse - Alcohol and Other Drug, you will:

  • Deliver individual counselling and therapeutic interventions to support recovery and wellbeing
  • Undertake comprehensive AOD assessments and develop person‑centred care plans
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary care planning and consultation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in health promotion, education and community awareness activities
  • Contribute to quality assurance, service development and continuous improvement initiatives

You Will Need

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Experience providing counselling and therapeutic interventions in an alcohol and other drug setting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary, evidence‑based practice in AOD treatment and prevention, including harm minimisation principles
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake complex AOD assessments and deliver effective interventions
  • Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience or capability to contribute to quality assurance, service improvement and/or research activities

Details of appointment:

Multiple permanent, full time and part time, day worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: 

$80,524 to $109,175 pro rata per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439- $109,175 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
