The Team:
The Workforce Strategy and Planning Unit (WSPU) provides statewide leadership in cross‑sectoral health workforce strategy, policy and planning, including medical workforce policy and strategy, to build a sustainable, skilled and future‑ready workforce for Tasmania. The Unit delivers integrated, evidence‑based workforce planning aligned with service and infrastructure planning, leads implementation and monitoring of the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan, and ensures alignment with national workforce reforms and priorities.
The Role:
This position leads the Workforce Planning Team to deliver strategic, integrated workforce planning aligned with, and supporting delivery of, the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan 2025–2030. The role provides strategic oversight of workforce projections, analytics, supply and demand modelling, scenario planning and forecasting, and leads the development, refinement and implementation of planning frameworks, tools, methodologies and governance arrangements that enable integrated, evidence‑based workforce planning. In doing so, the position drives a collaborative, high‑performing team culture that reduces siloed working, strengthens cross‑functional ways of working, and embeds evidence‑informed decision‑making across the planning function.
You will need:
- High-level strategic leadership and people management experience.
- Experience leading complex workforce planning and analytics functions in a health system or comparable environment.
- Highly developed communication, influence and negotiation skills.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Position Features:
May require occasional intra/interstate travel.
Salary: $139,470 to $148,863 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

Eligibility:
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline such as health administration, public policy, management, behavioural or social sciences, economics, data science or a related field; or
- Experience leading complex workforce planning and analytics functions in a health system or comparable environment.
