Job description:

Partners with the Nurse Unit Manager and senior clinicians to deliver high quality, evidence based care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Supports workforce and resource planning while providing day‑to‑day operational leadership, including coordinating patient care activities and managing patient flow.

The Team:

The Alasdair Macdonald Acute Medical Unit (AMU) is a 25 bed high acuity unit focusing on acute medicine, with a strong multidisciplinary approach to healthcare. The Role:

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) is an experienced nurse who, within the defined area of practice:

  • Works in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and other senior staff, to ensure the efficient and effective provision of care based on best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework.
  • Assists the NUM with the planning and management of staff and resources and provides operational leadership through the coordination of the day to day patient care activities.
  • Has a demonstrated ability to understand the business of the unit/service in delivering the best outcomes within available resources, including a demonstrated understanding of patient flow principles and discharge planning in the pursuit of patient/client goals within a contemporary healthcare framework.
  • Acts as a role model, providing clinical leadership and acting as a clinical resource for staff. 
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to facilitate complex care and safe admissions and discharge of inpatients.

Details of appointment:

  • Fixed term, part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working up to 64 hours per fortnight, commencing from 19 July 2026 until 12 September 2027.
  • Fixed term, part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working up to 48 hours per fortnight, commencing from 22 June 2026 until 1 August 2027.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $109,767 to $115,813 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
