Job description:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Medical Scientist in Charge - Transfusion Medicine vacancy.

The Team:

The Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Transfusion department supports all the tertiary referral units within the RHH. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our customers, our workforce and the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

  • Lead and coordinate all scientific and technical staff in the Transfusion Medicine Laboratory
  • Ensure adherence to national and local regulations and procedures and that required accreditation standards are continuously achieved.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.

You will need:

  • Relevant post graduate qualifications in the field of activity of the Department. E.g.: PhD, FFSc(RCPA), FAIMS or M.Sc.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the field of activity of the Transfusion Medicine Laboratory in a relatively large tertiary hospital or its equivalent.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $123,717 to $134,336 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022.

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent suitable to the position from a recognised institution
  • Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, The Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia or the Australian Society of Cytology
  • Where there is no relevant professional body the essential qualification must be met.
