The Team at the Department of Health Tasmania works collaboratively to support the effective purchasing and funding of health services that deliver value for the Tasmanian community. In the role of Principal Officer – Purchasing and Funding the focus is on providing strategic leadership, sound advice, and strong governance across funding arrangements. The team values partnership, accountability, and continuous improvement, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure funding decisions are well‑informed, transparent, and aligned with departmental priorities and health outcomes.
The Role:
The Principal Officer - Purchasing and Funding is a specialist position and plays a key role in the development of the funding model which guides the allocation of DoH budget and the provision of advice to business units across the DoH.
You will need to:
- Participate in the development and negotiation of the annual service agreement between the Minister for Health and the DoH, with a lead role in the development and negotiation of acceptable outcomes in relation to the type and volume of services to be delivered within the available budget allocation and the provision of options and initiatives consistent with strategic government priorities.
- Develop, maintain, implement and evaluate reporting processes to enable the effective monitoring and assessment of DoH performance against the service volume requirements outlined in the service agreement and the terms and conditions under which funding is provided.
- Prepare and provide high level briefings, reports, submissions and advice to the responsible Ministers, Secretary, Deputy Secretary SMR, and the DoH on purchasing and funding issues and the implications for DoH, including emerging performance issues and recommended interventions.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing 1 July 2026 until 30 June 2027.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
