Job description:

Join the Medical Imaging team at Launceston General Hospital as a Senior Specialist Sonographer, providing advanced clinical expertise and leadership within the Ultrasound Service. This role supports service quality, staff development, and patient‑centred care in a dynamic public hospital setting.

The Team:

The Launceston General Hospital Radiology department is one of the oldest continually operated departments in Australia. Our sonography department has 5 dedicated rooms with siemens and GE equipment all under 12 months old. We are a clinical teaching centre with current ultrasound trainees and a rotating staff of fourteen sonographers performing 11,000 scans per year. We focus on teamwork and collaboration with multiple upskilling opportunities in our very experienced sonography team. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

As the Senior Sonographer you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the sonography department inclusive of training, workload management and rostering.  As large part of this role will be maintaining standards in regard to protocol management and infection control to meet current accreditation processes.  

You will need:

  • A detailed knowledge of current ultrasound practises and standards
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • A commitment to continuing professional development

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from a mutually agreed upon date.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $123,717 to $134,336 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Allowances: 

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $130,900 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum
  • A market allowance of 20% of the base salary is applicable to this role.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry
  • Accredited with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry and if also practising as a radiographer, registered with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia.
  • Registered with the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry (ASAR)

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Minimum of five years post graduate experience in Ultrasound
  • Previous clinical experience within an Ultrasound service in a public hospital.
