Job description:

The Department of Health is seeking committed and motivated Psychiatrists to strengthen our multidisciplinary Mental Health Services team. Based primarily in North-West Tasmania, with additional opportunities across the state, these roles offer the chance to make a meaningful impact in diverse clinical settings.

 

Staff Specialist – Psychiatrist (Multiple Vacancies Statewide)

The Department of Health (DoH) is seeking experienced and dynamic Staff Specialists – Psychiatrists to join our multidisciplinary Mental Health Services team in North-West Tasmania, with opportunities across other locations statewide.

In this role, you will deliver high-quality mental health care in accordance with Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, agency policies, legal requirements, and relevant professional competencies.

The role:

  • Provides comprehensive general inpatient and community psychiatric services in the north west region of Tasmania.
  • Acts as a consultant to mental health professionals and health service providers, including general practitioners and other agencies, regarding the assessment and management of individuals with mental health disorders.
  • Undertakes supervisory responsibilities with Registrars/Career Medical Officers, Resident Medical Officers and other medical staff as required/appropriate.

Location: Burnie, Tasmania

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, with on-call roster as and when required, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- 11, Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation.

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year.
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle.
  • Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum
  • Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
  • Professional development and accelerated pathways.
  • A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
  • Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family.

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
