
The Team:
Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Molecular department is a multidisciplinary team providing a statewide service across Haematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Public Health.
We work closely together to focus on development and innovation in molecular testing to serve the growing needs of our community.
We aim to deliver excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community. As a major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.
The Role:
This is a permanent 3 day per week position with 2 of the days providing the weekend service as the sole scientist.
- Provide a weekend service for the department processing routine and urgent samples.
- Perform routine and specialised tests for the detection of genetic changes at both the chromosomal and nucleic acid levels.
- Perform specialised tests for the detection of infectious agents in a variety of specimen types.
- Undertake testing in accordance with national laboratory accreditation guidelines.
You will need:
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
- Strong communication skills - communicating with hospital staff, pathologists and technicians
- Self-motivation and strong prioritisation skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to rapidly changing priorities and tasks.

Details of appointment:
Permanent part-time, shift worker position, working 45.6 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Permanent weekend hours as well as weekday.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Position Features:
- Participation in weekend and out-of-hours call-back roasters may be required.
Salary: $73,834 to $111,364 per annum (pro-rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022.
- Shift penalties for weekend work
Salary Packaging:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
