Job description:

Conducts high-quality audits using clinical expertise to assess risks and support governance and continuous improvement.

The Team:

The Internal Audit unit within the Office of the Chief Risk Officer is an independent and objective assurance and advisory activity that is guided by a philosophy of adding value to improve the operations of public sector health services. It assists the Department in accomplishing organisational objectives to bring a systematic and disciplined approach to the evaluation of governance, risk management and control environments and recommends improvements to their efficiency and effectiveness.

The Role:

  • Deliver clinical and operational audits that assess efficiency, compliance, patient safety, and internal controls.
  • Bring clinical insight into audit methodology, findings, and recommendations.
  • Lead or support audit teams, manage priorities, and contribute to key projects and investigations.
  • Produce high-quality reports and build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisations.
  • Support continuous improvement and participate in safety, quality, and child safe practices. 

You will need:

  • High‑level clinical knowledge and experience in nursing practice and healthcare delivery systems, combined with expertise in internal controls, audit planning, risk evaluation, and audit methodologies. Demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to assess and improve health service delivery, ensuring compliance with legislation, accreditation standards, patient safety requirements, and risk management frameworks.
  • Proven ability to plan, lead, and complete internal audit reviews of operational efficiency, internal control systems, compliance processes, and health information management across diverse clinical environments, ensuring alignment with healthcare standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide high‑level, evidence‑based clinical advice and recommendations to senior staff and management, supporting governance, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $118,297 to $125,543 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Current Driver’s Licence.

  • Membership of a relevant professional organisation and/or relevant academic qualifications.
