Job description:

Lead complex projects, streamline Deputy Secretary workflows, deliver analysis and briefs, and provide high‑level strategic advice.

The Team:

The Office of the Deputy Secretary, Hospitals and Primary Care, provides high quality, professional and confidential support to the Deputy Secretary and the Leadership Team on current and emerging issues facing Tasmania’s health system.  This includes the delivery of clinical care services in the State’s major hospitals (Hobart, Launceston, NW Regional and Mersey) for acute needs and smaller district hospitals and vital primary care services across Tasmania.

The Role:

Provide high level and specialised expertise in contemporary project management principles and practices to develop, coordinate and implement projects or programs of work, strategies, and initiatives that improve policies, procedures, processes, and Statewide systems.

Coordinate the workflow and related functions of the Office of the Deputy Secretary as required, including research and preparation of briefings and ministerial correspondence, and monitoring the timeliness and quality of submissions, responses and replies to a range of correspondence.

Prepare and maintain project plans, minutes and action plans, undertake high level research, investigations, and analysis in cooperation with others to deliver required project outputs and outcomes, including preparing any relevant briefs, submissions, reports and communications.

Provide high level advice and assistance to the Deputy Secretary, relevant Ministers, the Secretary, other Deputy Secretaries and other senior staff in relation to the Office of the Deputy Secretary and the efficient and effective discharge of the Deputy Secretary’s functions.

You will need to:

  • Provide leadership, direction and coordination to the Office of the Deputy Secretary HPC to ensure high quality correspondence, briefing material and documentation.   
  • Develop, establish and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders on a broad range of operational and business issues impacting on the Deputy Secretary and Executive teams’ responsibilities. This includes being sensitive to a range of needs while delivering agreed changes or project outcomes as well as planning and/or leading stakeholder engagement and communication activities.
  • Attend meetings with the Deputy Secretary and/or Executive team members, prepare meeting papers, organise meetings and undertake secretariat activities.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $81,915 to $94,263 per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
