Job description:

The Team:

The Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

Our large social work team works collaboratively to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred social work services that support individuals & families across complex health settings. As a Senior Social Worker, the team provides advanced clinical expertise, leadership, and oversight of best‑practice interventions, ensuring care is ethical, culturally responsive, and aligned with legislative and policy frameworks.

The team plays a key role in complex assessment, risk management, advocacy, and service coordination, while also supporting workforce development through supervision, mentoring, and contribution to service improvement. Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to evidence‑based practice underpin the team’s focus on improving health outcomes and promoting safety, dignity, and wellbeing for Tasmanians.

The Role:

We are seeking applications from experienced senior social workers to fill vacancies in our Royal Hobart Hospital Acute stream.

If you have skills and experience in the Acute Hospital setting, particularly in medical, surgical, emergency & oncology clinical streams we would like to hear from you.

You will need to:

  • Assess the need for, plan, provide and evaluate Social Work Services for individual clients and client groups.
  • Supervise team members and review and promote development of their work performance.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of high practice standards, quality service delivery and quality outcomes.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $110,425 to $121,907 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022.

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

Allowances: 

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $119,290 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme 

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and is a full member of AASW or is eligible for membership with the AASW
  • Eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Overseas qualified Social Work candidates require a “certification of eligibility” letter from the AASW to confirm their eligibility for membership to the AASW
  • Or where regulatory requirements exist, NDIS Q&S Commission Provider Registration Requirements
  • Full member of Australian Association of Social Workers

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Position Features:

  • May be required to work at both onsite and offsite facilities of Royal Hobart Hospital
  • Participation in after-hours, oncall services which may include weeknights, weekends and public holidays, as required
