Job description:

Responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility. Provide after-hours emergency as determined by the relevant work unit.

The Team:

The North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) is a 160-bed acute care facility, located on the North West coast of Tasmania. NWRH is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) and is also an accredited teaching hospital with the University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School.

The Role:

The NWRH 8 bed ICU is led by an Intensivist who is a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) and clinical care is provided by fully qualified Intensivists who are fellows of the CICM with a 24/7 on-call cover arrangement. The unit possesses state-of-the-art equipment to provide advanced mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement, haemodynamic monitoring, echocardiography, ultrasound guided procedures, bronchoscopy and other ICU therapies.  

The unit is accredited by College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) for Foundation and Rural training in Intensive Care Medicine and is approved to train CICM candidates under Commonwealth-funded IRTP and TMSDT programs. We will provide you with all the required support, in the form of immediately available and easily approachable Specialist supervision, learning resources and regular teaching to perform your role safely and effectively. Our teaching program includes weekly teaching and weekly CICM First Part Examination preparation sessions. Our ICU registrars are also welcome to attend the BASIC course, which we run twice per year. One of the Consultants has been a Primary CICM examiner.

Doctors who are not in a training stream (Unaccredited Registrars/Senior Residents) and wanting hands-on experience with high-acuity Intensive Care are also welcome to apply.

Details of appointment:

  • Fixed term full time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible until 6 February 2028.
  • Registrars only: You will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight, pro rata.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary:

Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $134,930 - $189,005 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia

  • Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
