We are seeking interest from a surgical trainee who has recently been awarded a MMed-Surgery by the Fiji National University (within five years) to be considered for a 12-month fixed term within General Surgical Services. During the term, the trainee will be allocated an Educational Supervisor to provide onsite support.
The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The clinical work in this role involves managing acute/emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery’s Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU). There is also involvement in outpatient and elective services. The RHH Department of General Surgery offers the major sub-specialty areas (colorectal, UGI, HPB, breast, endocrine) and there would be some opportunities for exposure to those fields. During the year there may be rotations (~10 weeks duration) in Paediatric Surgery and/or Trauma, and there is some exposure to Vascular Surgery after-hours. There are also opportunities to be involved with other teaching and research activities.

Duties
The Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as required.

Salary
$134,930 - $189,005 per annum + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.

Period of Employment
Fixed term, full time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight plus 10 hours protected training time (pro rata) from 1 February 2027 until 6 February 2028.

- General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
