The Team:
The Strategic Communications and Media team is responsible for shaping and managing the Department’s public image, media relations, and communication strategies. They ensure consistent messaging across internal and external channels, support stakeholder engagement, and promote visibility of departmental initiatives. The team plays a key role in aligning communications with the Department’s strategic goals and priorities.
The Role:
The position reports to the Strategic Communications team in the Department of Health and leads a small team to directly support the Chief Executive Hospitals South and Hospitals South to deliver internal and external communications to ensure that it promotes a positive image. 
The position:
- Provides specialist media and communications advice, services and quality assurance of information to ensure that services and programs are communicated to key stakeholders and the Tasmanian public.
- Provides contemporary communication support and direction to Hospital South on a range of communication initiatives and programs.
- Builds proactive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including media organisations, executives, clinical leaders and managers to assess and respond to their varied media and communication requirements.
You will need:
- Develop and assist the Chief Executive Hospitals South in the delivery of overall communication requirements for Hospitals South to ensure that services, initiatives and programs are communicated internally and externally effectively.
- Develop and implement communication and media plans and strategies that promote the programs and events of Hospitals South.
- Provide strategic media advice in a fast-paced team to identify opportunities and risks, manage issues and enquiries and accurate advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing on 26 January 2026.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
