Job description:

The North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital are looking for a Practice Manager- Outpatient Service to provide high-level leadership and operational oversight of outpatient administration

The Role:

We are recruiting a Practice Manager to lead and support Outpatient Services across the North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital. This role provides high-level leadership and operational oversight of outpatient administration, driving change through the Outpatient Transformation Program to ensure high-quality, patient-centred service delivery. Responsibilities include planning and evaluating outpatient operations, managing clinic demand in collaboration with stakeholders, implementing business improvements and governance frameworks, and integrating telehealth and virtual care technologies. The position also oversees revenue and billing processes, supports staff development, and prepares services for future growth and expansion.

In addition, the Practice Manager will provide strategic advice and leadership across all outpatient services, including service planning and delivery, financial and billing management, and monitoring and evaluation of performance. The role focuses on maximising outpatient capacity through business efficiencies and continuous improvement, while fostering strong engagement with key stakeholders such as consumers, GPs, Primary Health Tasmania, and clinical staff. By maintaining a responsive and collaborative approach, the Practice Manager will ensure outpatient services meet evolving community needs and deliver sustainable, high-quality care.

You will need:

  • Demonstrated expertise in leading health service operations, including strategic planning, change management, and policy development within outpatient or similar healthcare settings.

  • High-level interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders including patients, clinicians, and external partners.

  • Proven ability to manage data-driven service delivery, including performance monitoring, reporting, and the use of healthcare software systems to support operational efficiency.

  • Provide quality leadership, advice and support to frontline Outpatient Services Administration staff that establish effective approaches to meet both patient and clinical needs for Outpatient services, through management and evaluation of clinic environments, business and governance systems.

  • Provide ongoing planning, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of all aspects relating to outpatient services, and implement improvements/changes where necessary.

  • Work with key internal executive stakeholders and the Outpatient Transformation Program lead to develop strategies and implement processes to effectively manage and respond to the demand of a large number of high-volume clinics.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, term full time, day worker positions, working 76 hours per fortnight, Commencing ASAP

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
