Exciting opportunity to join an innovative team managing digital infrastructure technologies. Providing support to the Department of Health by providing expert technical leadership in the management, support, and continuous improvement of enterprise server and storage environments.
The Senior Consultant – Technical (529307) works within the Digital Health Services Division, a team dedicated to delivering robust, secure, and innovative technology solutions across Tasmania’s public health system. This team plays a critical role in supporting statewide digital transformation initiatives, including infrastructure modernization, system integration, and cybersecurity enhancements. The team collaborates closely with clinical, operational, and policy units to ensure technology aligns with health service needs and strategic goals. Known for its technical expertise and problem-solving capabilities, the team fosters a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and service excellence to support the Department’s mission of improving health outcomes for all Tasmanians.
The Role:
The role delivers expert and specialist consultancy services and/or technical solutions and/or technical project management to deliver to agreed strategy and complex technological issues. Through the application of technical expertise and standardised project methodologies as appropriate, the role interprets policy, implements strategy and scopes requirements to achieve results and enhance service delivery in line with the Department’s broader organisational goals.
Within this context, the role provides expert advice and specialist support to stakeholders; plans, designs, tests and implements effective information management and technology solutions; develops and maintains standards to ensure business continuity; undertakes deep research and analysis; and produces frameworks and/or plans.
While the scope of work is defined by the operational priorities of the assigned business unit, this role works closely with the manager, across teams and the broad range of stakeholders in the delivery of accurate, reliable and targeted business outcomes and to meet agreed briefs and branch service standards.
You will need to:
- Deliver complex technical consultancy, project or business as usual (BAU) within the assigned business unit to provide fit for purpose solutions. This may include: providing expert support and customer service to improve business capability; ensuring service continuity; investigating and resolving complex issues and incidents; analysing and mapping functional specifications; developing policy, methodologies and standards; integrating or modifying systems or processes; guiding and supporting team members to build team capability; champion new ways of working to optimise effectiveness.
- Lead assigned consultancy/projects/BAU taking accountability from planning to completion. This includes: identifying stakeholders, securing and coordinating resources, expectation management, risk management, and providing timely and accurate technical solutions to support outcomes. Manage budgets as directed, prepare business cases and contract management documentation and work closely with the line manager to set priorities and monitor progress for assigned activities.
- Provide high level specialised advice, direction and guidance to the line manager, customers and other stakeholders. Identify and address complex issues such as planning, implementation and delivery of innovative, cost-effective and sustainable technical solutions that meet customer requirements and improve the customer experience. The role may be required to represent the branch at business forums or meetings.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $128,102 to $134,832 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in ICT or related discipline
- Appropriate technical certification in relevant specialist discipline
