Job description:

Leadership role in a nursing led primary healthcare service, supporting excellence in clinical care, and with opportunities for growth and innovation.

The Team:

The Child Health and Parenting Service deliver nursing-led, community based primary care to parents with children under 5 across Tasmania. This includes health and developmental screening, parenting and family support, groups, and specialised programs. All care is delivered in partnership with families, using primary healthcare principles including universal access, equity, strengths-based care, and an aim to build on caregiver self-efficacy and community self-determination. CHaPS dynamic and multi-disciplinary nursing and allied health team contributes significantly to health and wellbeing outcomes for children, caregivers, and families across Tasmania.

The Role:

The CHaPS Nurse Unit Manager manages a clinical team performing direct care in the community, as part of the CHaPS leadership team. Nurse Unit Managers support their teams to deliver quality care, ensure safety of staff and consumers, manage financial and operational resources, and support staff development and training. The CHaPS Nurse Unit Manager also contributes to the overall leadership of the Child Health and Parenting Service, including quality improvement, governance and change management.

You will need:

  • Individuals will demonstrate capability to be adaptable and respond and adjust easily to change. They are proactive and self-directed and will seize opportunities and act upon them, ensuring improved outcomes for the practice area.
  • Individuals will demonstrate capability to promote a shared vision and purpose, and positively influence others (internally and externally) to ensure optimal client outcomes and build a culture of success, commitment, and active contribution by all staff within the practice area.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in contemporary nursing management practice, including clinical governance; clinical risk management; evidence-based practice; research; clinical standards; ethics; and legislation.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 18th January 2026

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $122,365 to $129,060 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

  • Current Working with Children Registration

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Relevant post-graduate qualification

  • Post-graduate qualifications in Child and Family Health Nursing and Health Management
