Working at the Roy Fagan Centre – A Career with Purpose
Supporting the Future of Nursing: The RUSON Role
The Roy Fagan Centre is proud to support the Registered Undergraduate Student of Nursing (RUSON) initiative, an innovative employment model that enables nursing students to gain paid and supervised experience in clinical settings while completing their studies.
RUSONs are undergraduate students in either the Bachelor or Diploma of Nursing programs who have completed their initial clinical placements. They work under the delegation of Registered Nurses and within a clearly defined scope of practice that evolves as they progress through their studies. This role allows them to contribute meaningfully to patient care while developing confidence, clinical skills, and professional identity.
Benefits of the RUSON role include:
- Enhanced support for nursing teams through delegated care
- Improved patient experience through timely assistance and engagement
- A smoother transition into Enrolled or Registered Nurse roles upon graduation
- A structured pathway for career progression within the Tasmanian Health Service
RUSONs are fully integrated into the nursing team and contribute to a positive, collaborative workplace culture. Their presence strengthens team-based models of care and supports the delivery of compassionate, person-centred services—especially in specialised settings like older persons mental health.
By welcoming RUSONs, the Roy Fagan Centre is investing in the future of nursing and helping shape a resilient, skilled workforce dedicated to the wellbeing of older Tasmanians.
