The Regulation and Licensing team:
The Regulation, Licensing and Accreditation Unit exists to safeguard the quality and safety of healthcare services across Tasmania. Operating on behalf of the Minister for Health, the Unit regulates and licenses Private Hospitals, Day Procedure Centres, and Non-Emergency Patient Transport Providers, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards. Through the implementation of the Australian Health Service Safety and Quality Accreditation (AHSSQA) Scheme, the Unit oversees both public and private health services to promote safe, high-quality care. Despite its small size, the Regulation and Licensing Unit is a high-performing team operating in a fast-paced environment, committed to regulatory excellence and continuous improvement in healthcare safety and quality.
The role:
- Provide high level authoritative advice to the Manager Regulation, Licensing and Accreditation on safety and quality issues to inform licensing and regulatory decisions, and for the ongoing effective and efficient delivery of regulatory services.
- Lead work in the planning, development, implementation, management and delivery of key regulatory activities and initiatives with a focus on ongoing safety and quality assessment and improvement initiatives to optimise and influence the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of systems and processes that support the regulatory functions of licensing private health service establishments.
- Build productive relationships, networks, and linkages between the RLA Unit, the DoH, licensed private health establishments, NEPTS, relevant national and state organisations and other key internal and external stakeholders in relation to regulation and accreditation improvements.
You will need:
- High level experience in policy development and implementation including developing and implementing strategies and processes to ensure legislative compliance and investigative principles and techniques.
- In-depth understanding of the health and human services sector or the ability to quickly acquire such understanding.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, including the ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders, effectively communicate and resolve complex issues and produce high quality written documents under general direction.

Details of Appointment
Permanent, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $107,899 to $122,292 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Completion of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards Orientation Course.
- Experience in the interpretation of legislation, regulation, and parliamentary processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in law.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
