Job description:

Provide specialist care to public and private patients. Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required.

The hospital/site/area/team:

The cardiology department at the Launceston General Hospital has a catchment population of a quarter of a million and provides 24/7 cardiac services to Northern Tasmania. This growing and busy department has a team of 7 cardiologist and three advanced trainees; there are exciting plans in the near future for expansion to Northern Heart Centre at LGH with two state of art catheterisation labs and a stand-alone department as part of the LGH master plan.

The cardiac catheterisation lab at LGH is well established with experienced medical and nursing staff; and can lay claim to being one of the busiest labs in the country with over 2000 procedures and more than 500 coronary angioplasties annually. The applicant can expect to work in a well-supported, friendly environment practising evidence backed medicine, complex coronary work and structural heart interventions. There is opportunity to have sessions at a fully functional private catheterisation lab at Calvary St Vincent’s Hospital if the applicant wishes to work part time in the private sector.

Launceston is a friendly vibrant city with world renowned vineyards, fresh tassie produce, and a great café and food culture. It is a very liveable city with easy commutes, fantastic schools and affordable housing. The best mountain hikes and walks, bike trails and beaches are within a few kilometres from this central location.

Details of Appointment

Permanent day worker with on call position, hours to be negotiated with successful applicant working up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Specialist Medical Practitioners 

Specialist Medical Practitioner with Base Salary of  Level 1-11 $216,300 - 296,640 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- 3 $300,389 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro rata
  • Relocation allowance
  • On call allowance % of Base Salary
  • All other allowances as per current Award
  • In addition, subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS).

    If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
