Job description:

The Communicable Disease Prevention Unit (CDPU) comprises three divisions: Immunisation, Health Intelligence, and Response including Infection Prevention and Control. The primary purpose of the CDPU is to prevent and control communicable diseases within Tasmania. We actively engage with the public and collaborate closely with stakeholders to prevent and respond effectively to notifiable diseases.

The Team:

The Communicable Disease Prevention Unit (CDPU) comprises three divisions: Immunisation, Health Intelligence, and Response including Infection Prevention and Control. The primary purpose of the CDPU is to prevent and control communicable diseases within Tasmania. We actively engage with the public and collaborate closely with stakeholders to prevent and respond effectively to notifiable diseases.

The CDPU has delegated statutory responsibility for aspects of the Public Health Act 1997 and for the Poisons Regulations 2018 relating to immunisation. We receive notifications of diseases from laboratories and medical practitioners as stipulated in the Guidelines for Notifying Diseases and Food Contaminants.

The Role:

This role will provide leadership and technical expertise to support the management of surveillance data and dissemination of information using cloud-based databases and communication systems.

You will need:

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including proven conflict resolution, negotiation and liaison skills and the capacity to work collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of public health surveillance and related data entry, record keeping and data quality assurance processes with the ability to identify, implement and evaluate activities.
  • Demonstrated extensive skills and experience with database management, data manipulation and transfer across HTML and SQL-based information systems, and the ability to produce meaningful and accurate reports and submissions.

Details of appointment:

Fixed Term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2027. 

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $98,255 to $103,069 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Post graduate qualifications in public health or health system management
  • Experience in the management of health or surveillance data
  • Experience working with linked health data will be an advantage
