Job description:

General Practitioner – Correctional Primary Health Service (CPHS). CPHS provides statewide healthcare for adults and young people in custody. Our team delivers compassionate, high-quality care in partnership with the Tasmanian Prison Service and other key stakeholders.

The Team:

This is an exciting time to join CPHS, with a significant reform agenda underway aimed at improving health outcomes, strengthening service integration, and enhancing models of care across custodial settings. Team members have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful system change and be part of a service that is evolving to meet the complex needs of people in custody.

The Role:

  • We are seeking an experienced General Practitioner to provide clinical care at the Launceston Reception Prison and the Ashley Youth Detention Centre.
  • The position offers opportunities for ongoing professional and career development.
  • The successful candidate will participate in our medical officer on-call roster.
  • This is a permanent position, and a relocation allowance may be available.

You will need:

  • Substantial experience in the provision of community based medical services.  Whilst previous experience in prison work is useful it is not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide expert advice on the provision of health services.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, supervision, teaching and direction to patients and workers within the prison setting.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to liaise with both internal and external organisations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of research and data collection in development of health services within the clinical environment.

Position Features:

  • The job is located within a maximum-security prison and will work within site locations across the state of Tasmania. The occupant will have regular daily contact with prisoners in an environment which requires all staff to be alert to any matter concerning the security and safety of the prison, prisoners/detainees and staff.
  • Some Interstate and Intrastate travel may be required.
  • This position involves regular on call work which is divided equally between the medical workforce including the Statewide Specialty Director.
  • Contract terms and conditions to be negotiated.
  • Staff employed against this Statement of Duties as a Visiting Medical Practitioner/Specialist will be employed in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement and remunerated accordingly.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible.

In the future (date to be determined) this position will be relocated to a facility in the south of the state.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Salary:

 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available 

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,389 per annum for full time employees (allowance paid pro rata for part time employees).
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum, pro rata
  • Professional development and accelerated pathways.
  • A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
  • Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family.
  • other allowances as applicable.

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
