Job description:

The Health Research Office (HRO) leads Department of Health-wide research strategy and planning and engages with researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders to identify priorities and support research activity and research development in Tasmania.

The Team:

The Health Research Office (HRO) leads Department of Health-wide research strategy and planning and engages with researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders to identify priorities and support research activity and research development in Tasmania.

The Health Research Office further governs health research and manages applications in research ethics and governance in Tasmania, in partnership with the Tasmania Health Service and the University of Tasmania and other stakeholders, to increase uptake of and access to clinical research for Tasmanian researchers and patients.     

The Role:

To support the Health Research Office (HRO) to lead the Department of Health-wide research strategy and planning. This includes support of Health Research Officers in their engagement with researchers, clinicians and other stakeholders to identify priorities and support research development in Tasmania.    

To ensure effective workflows in the Health Research Office for research governance and efficient management of applications for research ethics and governance.  

Duties:

  1. Provide project and program support to the HRO.
  2. Manage routine enquiries to the Health Research Office.
  3. Research, analyse and provide analysis and recommendations to Health Research Officers on applications received for research ethics and governance approval.
  4. Prepare reports and submissions, correspondence, briefing notes and other correspondence as required.
  5. Manage the Health Research Office invoicing to ensure that payments are made on time and revenue is appropriately collected.
  6. Administration of, and support for, Health Research Office data management systems.
  7. Liaise with, develop and maintain strong communication links with key stakeholders.
  8. Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.
  9. The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

You will need:

  1. Highly developed time management and organisational skills demonstrated by the ability to plan, prioritise and manage own work with a high level of professional judgement, initiative and attention to detail in situations of work pressure and change.
  2. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, oral communication skills, including the ability to build productive relationships as a member of team and with stakeholders and foster a productive work ethic and positive workplace culture.
  3. High level strategic, conceptual, analytical and creative skills, including the ability to produce high quality documentation and reporting in a variety of communication formats for a range of target audiences, including demonstrated presentation skills to deliver program deliverables.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $98,255 to $103,069 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

Position Features:

The position is based in Hobart with an expectation that the occupant travel to various intrastate locations. Interstate travel may be required.
