Job description:

Support patient care under RN/EN supervision, follow care plans, and maintain skills through ongoing training. Contribute to quality healthcare while building your career.

The Team:

Located in Latrobe, the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) has 95 beds and offers general and specialist health services including 24-hour emergency department, general medicine day surgery and endoscopy, rehabilitation, palliative care and oncology services along with a variety of specialist clinics. Mersey Community hospital is a dedicated elective surgery centre and provides a mixture of general hospital services. The hospital has close ties with the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School and with TAFE Tasmania thus providing opportunities for comprehensive clinical training programs.

The Role:

The Assistant in Nursing will: 

  • Deliver nursing care as delegated by the RN, under the supervision of an RN or EN, according to the nursing care plan and within the scope of the Assistant in Nursing – Workplace Guidelines.
  • Work with the RN and/or EN in establishing priorities for patient/client care delivery.
  • Maintain healthcare knowledge and skills in accordance with the Assistant in Nursing – Workplace Guidelines and competencies required under a Certificate III qualification, through participation in relevant staff education activities.

You will need

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in patient/client care, with an ability to assist patients/clients to meet their personal care needs and perform activities of daily living as required.
  2. Ability to work as an effective team member in an acute care team environment.
  3. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, including written, verbal and numeracy skills.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to adhere to safe manual handling and infection control procedures.
  5. Demonstrated ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, casual, shift worker (fully rotational) position working as and when required, commencing from 25 May 2025 until 31 August 2026.

Salary: $64,985 to $71,008 pro rata, per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Acute Care); or

  • Certificate III Individual Support (Ageing Specialisation); or

  • Is currently an undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing student who has completed their first year clinical practice placement; or

  • A current Diploma of Nursing student who has completed their first clinical practice placement

  • Current Working with Children Registration 

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Current First Aid Certificate
