Job description:

The Alcohol and Drug Counsellor - Graduate is a position is designed a university graduate who has successfully completed a University Degree in Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Social Work within the last 1-3 years

The Team:

The Alcohol and Drug Service is a statewide service that provides treatment to individuals and their families for alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues. ADS are a multi-disciplinary service which provide a number of different services to the community including intake and assessment, counselling, pharmacotherapy, consultation liaison and secondary consults and withdrawal management.   

The Role:

The Alcohol and Drug Counsellor - Graduate position is designed for a university graduate who has successfully completed a University Degree in Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Social Work within the last 1-3 years.

The individual will be:

  • Trained in all areas of the relevant multidisciplinary Alcohol and Other Drugs service. 
  • Expected to gain sufficient competency to be able to work independently as a member of the Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS). 
  • Guided to deliver a high-quality alcohol and other drug treatment service in accordance with relevant Government Legislation and Regulations, Primary Health Care Principles, ADS policies, procedures and protocols and relevant professional competencies.

You will need to:

  • Provide a comprehensive, evidence-based clinical assessment, treatment and assertive case management service to clients, and families/carers, who have issues with alcohol and/or other drugs.
  • Undertake clinical documentation in line with organisational and professional requirements, including preparation of requested treatment reports.
  • Participate in ongoing quality assurance programs, including the development and implementation of specialised alcohol and other drug psychosocial treatment programs.

Details of appointment: Allied Health Professional, Level 1-2

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible and for a period of two years.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $73,834 to $111,364 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Occupational Board of Australia and Registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; or

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Psychology Board of Australia and Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia; or

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and is a full member of AASW or is eligible for membership with the AASW

  • Current Working with Children Registration
