Job description:

Launceston General Hospital and the Hospital & Primary Care North community are seeking applications from Aboriginal People for casual employment as an Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer (AHLO) to cover leave periods and occasional work.

Launceston General Hospital and the Hospital & Primary Care North community are seeking applications from Aboriginal People for casual employment as an Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer (AHLO) to cover leave periods and occasional work.

The role of the AHLO is to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their families and carers, and members of the health care team, to provide and promote culturally sensitive services to Aboriginal patients and their families during their time in hospital, and access to hospital care and health supports in the community.

A regular day will see you:

  • Visit wards and spend time with patients, their families and carers
  • Help patients talk to health professionals
  • Help patients understand medical procedures
  • Support patients to make decisions about their care
  • Link patients to Aboriginal community health organisations or other appropriate services
  • Support health staff to provide culturally respectful health services
  • Help patients access health services such as treatment procedures and appointments
  • Contribute to health activities and programs that promote cultural healing

About you:

To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

  • Knowledge of community health, public health and Aboriginal health  
  • Experience working with Aboriginal people in the delivery of health programs or community services
  • Knowledge of Tasmanian Aboriginal history, culture, Community and connection to Country
  • A strong work ethic and ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills

Details of appointment:

Casual position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for up to 12 or 24 months.

Salary: $81,915 to $94,263 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022
