The Tasmanian Neurosurgical Unit is a level 6 statewide tertiary referral centre receiving both elective and emergency Neurosurgical and, in some instances, Neurology patients with a variety of clinical presentations. The team on K8W are made up of skilled Neurosurgical Nurses, Allied Health and Surgical Professionals. Nurses on K8W are afforded the opportunity to be exposed to and care for, varying levels of acuity with a total of 24 beds inclusive of 6 Neurosurgical High Dependency beds. The team on K8W strive for achieving care that is evidence- based practice informed and consumer driven.

The Role:
- Clinical lead for the specialist consultancy service, RHH Tracheostomy Service which included the collection of data for the Global Tracheostomy Initiative.
- Through the delivery of advanced nursing care leads tracheostomy case management across the acute phases of care for patients admitted to the RHH including facilitating multidisciplinary care across departments, wards, specialities, and sectors from presentation to discharge including rehabilitation.
- Provides advice on relevant aspects of discharge planning and liaises with Community Service Providers and other hospitals including the facilitation of interhospital and interstate transfer and timely back transfer.
You will need:
- Extensive experience with demonstrated advanced level of clinical expertise in Neurosurgical Nursing; is patient/client focused, demonstrates self-awareness of the effects of behaviour on others, deals with or manages ambiguity and complexity, and demonstrates resilience in the delivery of safe and quality patient care.
- Demonstrated ability to provide contemporary leadership together with the ability to initiate, guide and motivate a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to identify the learning needs of patients, carers and staff in relation to Neurosurgical conditions and the ability to develop, deliver and evaluate education activities that will meet those needs.

Details of appointment:
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a senior Registered Nurse within Neurosurgery.

A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience in tracheostomy management.

Holds or is working towards relevant post graduate qualifications.
