Job description:

The Department of Health are seeking a highly self-motivated Clinical Nurse Consultant to join the Organ and Tissue Donation Unit.

The Team:

DonateLife Tasmania is a part of the national network of DonateLife agencies across Australia, and works within the national program led by the Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA). DonateLife Tasmania coordinates all organ and tissue donation services across the state with medical and nursing specialists providing professional donation services within hospitals advocating for best practice to increase donation rates. Our services include; clinical management of donation process, care and support of donor families, educating health professionals about donation and raising awareness about organ and tissue donation in the community

The Role:

In collaboration with the Medical Director and the Nursing Director - DonateLife Tasmania facilitate and coordinate organ and tissue donation in Tasmania, including the provision of a 24 hour, on call, statewide Organ and Tissue Donation service.

You will need

  • A strong understanding of organ and tissue donation, its legal and ethical aspects and the current AOTA key strategies with extensive experience in end-of-life care.
  • Clinical experience in Critical care areas of nursing practice
  • Ability and commitment to champion, educate and lead other health professionals to improve organ and tissue donation outcomes.
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership capabilities with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, whilst maintaining involvement in the wider multidisciplinary team, within a highly challenging environment.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 38 hours per fortnight, at the Royal Hobart Hospital commencing as soon as possible. 

Permanent, part time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 38 hours per fortnight, at the Launceston General Hospital commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Post-registration qualifications in a specialty field relevant to organ and tissue donation, extensive post registration experience and a strong interest/working knowledge of organ and tissue donation and its legal and ethical aspects
