Job description:

Provide specialist care to public and private patients. Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required.

The Launceston General Hospital invites applicants to apply to the role of Staff Specialist Gastroenterology.

The Gastroenterology Department at Launceston General Hospital acts as the tertiary-referral hospital for Northern Tasmania.

The team consists of five visiting Gastroenterologists, an Advanced Gastroenterology trainee (VIC/TAS match), Unaccredited trainee, BPT, and JMO/Intern.

Services offered include Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Single-balloon enteroscopy, ERCP with Spyglass/Holmium laser lithotripsy, EUS, Halo RFA, Capsule Endoscopy, and Oesophageal manometry / 24hr pH studies.

The unit provides inpatient and consultative services, averaging 7-10 inpatients, as well as high volumes of endoscopic procedures.

Details of Appointment

Permanent full time, day worker with on call position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible, on a mutually agreed date.

Specialist Medical Practitioners 

Specialist Medical Practitioner Base Salary - Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 per annum
  • Access to salary packaging 
  • On call is a requirement of the role, and an on call allowance will be paid in addition to base salary.
  • Generous relocation package
  • May be entitled to participate in the Private Patient Scheme, or an allowance in lieu of 35% of base salary
  • other allowances as applicable to current Award and Agreement

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216,472 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022 

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria 

Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway

Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who holds who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed having sufficient experience in the speciality

Current Working with Children Registration 

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change.
